Fly-In / Fly-Over, Mountainair (M10) July 2

Fly-In/Fly-Over, Mountainair Airport (M10) July 2nd

You're Invited!  The town of Mountainair, 36 nm southeast of KABQ, invites pilots to participate in Independence Day festivities.

If you want to join a fly-over during the parade (at or above the required minimum 1000 AGL altitude), plan to be circling the M10 airstrip at 8000 ft by 10:15 AM on July 2nd, and listen for instructions on 122.9.

Transportation will be provided to town for breakfast and/or lunch and holiday festivities from the newly graded dirt strip after the fly-over.  A new tie-down area has been graded at the west end of the strip (still under construction), but bring your own stakes and ropes.

Check out Jeff Gilkey's Obscure and Scenic NM column, describing scenic spots to check out on your way into and out of Mountainair.

Arrive at 0800 for a breakfast run into town. OR arrive for the flyover and stay for lunch. OR alternatively, just come to join the flyover and head back home (without landing).

Please register if you plan to land and go into town so we can organize ground transportation.

Mountainair 2022

Update: June 28, 2022

-Still a go but we have had a fair amount of rain; will send an update on the runway condition later in the week.
-For now, plan to park/tie down at the EAST end; the worked dirt in the planned west end tie-down area is too soft and has ridges.
-Camping and tie-down fine for Friday night but NOT RECOMMENDED FOR SATURDAY NIGHT since the town is planning to hold a fireworks display at the airport that evening.
-Status of requested porta-potty unknown.
-Current forecast is for 40% chance of rain in the area after lunchtime Saturday.

Latest Mountainair runway picts from Harv Martens (06/28/2022)
1)  I drove the runway today and found it to be firm.
2)  My truck barely made tracks.
3) The portion beyond the east end of the runway markers is also firm but only for the first couple of hundred feet.  Once you go further east than the hangars, it gets soft and muddy.
4) There was a large molehill on the runway, which I flattened.
5)  which I flattened.
