NM Legislature Update - Aviation Funding

NMPA Website
Hello NMPA members and friends,

The state legislature is churning through a plethora of bills. NM Airport managers request our support for two  significant airport and aviation funding bills. They go to committee TOMORROW so see info on how you can help in NMAMA President Bob Hudson's note below.

  • SB104 Airport Infrastructure Funding, $308 million.  Here are Talking Points and a list of proposed funding by airport.  This is based on taking advantage of available funds to catch up on the backlog of airport improvements identified statewide.  This is a huge ask but would address long standing needs.  DOWNLOAD SB104
  • HB78 Aviation Fund GRT (remove a sunset clause, establish more stable funding stream for state Aviation Division)  Download HB078

Stay tuned for more!
A Joint Resolution (not yet introduced) would preserve the existing airfield on the L Bar Ranch east of Mt Taylor, now owned by the state.  Stay tuned for more on this.  It would add a wonderful backcountry destination that we've dreamed to make publicly available since our efforts began.  Our executive summary is posted Exec Summary - Preserve Santa Rosa Peak Airfield.  More on this coming in February newsletter.

Attached for your convenience is a copy of the bills and the associated talking points.

I encourage anyone that can, please come to the hearings and show your support for aviation.

Study these talking points and then reach out to your city leaders, your legislative representatives, and your airport partners so that we can be heard to make this one time financial "windfall" a reality.

Also try to keep your calendars open so that when this bill starts "rolling" we can be at the Roundhouse to lend our support and get this over the finish line.

Together we can make this happen. Any questions can be addressed to me or Dan, or Jane.

Bob Hudson
