CLASS SIZE
We can accommodate a maximum of 10 pilots for the flight portions of this first clinic, but an unlimited number of pilots/students for the Saturday-morning classwork. The latter are welcome to stay through Saturday afternoon to judge the takeoff and landing practice, and to attend the Saturday evening BBQ social.
Instructing CFI’s will not count against the limit of 10 flying pilots.
REQUIREMENTS FOR PILOTS
The clinic is open to pilots of all stripes and types. However, pilots should have at least 100 hours PIC under their belts, as well as at least 10 hours of experience in the make and model aircraft they will be flying.
Pilots should arrive having completed a short homework assignment, as described below.
Instructing CFI’s should have enough back-country experience to be proficient and comfortable teaching performance takeoffs and landings at unimproved, high-altitude strips.
REQUIREMENTS FOR AIRPLANES
Pilots must bring their own airplanes, but both tricycle and tailwheel aircraft are welcome. They should be capable of flying at 90% of the maximum allowable gross weight while carrying 3 hours of fuel. Tire size should be 6.00 x 6 or larger. Be aware that wheel pants can be damaged on gravel/dirt runways. “Cruise” props, i.e., fixed-pitch propellers pitched to maximize cruise airspeed, are not acceptable.
HOTELS AND MEALS
All participants including CFI’s will need to make their own hotel arrangements. Transportation will be provided to/from hotels. Hotels in town recommended for TorC ambiance include the Charles Motel (575/894-7154) and the Pelican Spa (575/894-0055). Hotels closer to the airport include the Holiday Inn Express (575/894-3900) and the Comfort Inn (575/894-1660).
Registration fees will cover donuts and coffee Saturday morning, a box lunch, and a BBQ social Saturday evening. Breakfast burritos and another box lunch will be provided for the flying pilots on Sunday.
