11-30 NMDGF Decision to Retain 48 Hr Rule for Aircraft Updated: Tuesday, December 4, 2018

YOUR VOICE WAS HEARD!

On November 30, 2018, the New Mexico Game Commission voted to retain the 48 hour rule for use of aircraft, amending the Proposed Manner & Method Rule, 19.31.10 NMAC.  Ron Orozco and Ron Keller attended the meeting on behalf of NMPA, the RAF, and AOPA. You can listen to the Recording at: http://www.wildlife.state.nm.us/commission/meeting-agendas/

Thanks to all of you who wrote letters and made phone calls, as the Commission listened and acknowledged by amending the rule. To make a change at this late date is unusual but made possible by a unified aviation community who engaged community leaders and hunters alike. It is a credit also to the Commissioners that serve and make the tough decisions.

NMPA has offered the expertise of our aviation network, along with AOPA, RAF and our New Mexico Airstrip Network partners to work with the NM Department of Game and Fish.  For starters, we can help educate  pilots and hunters to alleviate conflicts and create mutual respect for use of our public lands. Ron Orozco of Animas is leading that effort. AOPA provided an example of such a partnership in education/training efforts regarding invasive species on seaplanes.  View the Seaplane Association video.

If you have ideas or are interested to participate in that process, please contact us at our nmpa@nmpilots.org
