4-5-6 September 2009 in Santa Fe, NM
Once again the New Mexico Pilots Association (NMPA) is presenting its annual weekend mountain flying clinic on 4-5-6 September 2009. This FAA approved course, conducted by NMPA since 2002, consists of a mountain flying ground school, and 3 flight hours. It begins with a ground school (FAA WINGS Safety Seminar) on Friday evening covering flying safety in the mountains. This is followed by 3 hours of flying in the mountains with a highly experienced and qualified mountain CFI. Upon completion of the seminar and flying, each pilot will receive a clinic completion certificate, and depending on scope of the flight portion, a completed BFR. Many insurance companies give a premium discount for completion of this clinic. This event is co-sponsored by the NM Pilots Association and the US Pilots Association.

RECEPTION: The weekend begins with a reception on Friday from 5-6 PM, sponsored by Ronald C. Krohn, Vice President of Morgan Stanley Smith Barney in Santa Fe. Attendees are invited to arrive early to enjoy hors d’oeuvres and the camaraderie of fellow pilots.
GROUND SCHOOL (WINGS Seminar open to the public, free of charge): Following the reception Friday night from 6:00 - 8:00 PM, the Ground School will be presented by Grant Besley of Rancho de Taos, a retired airline Captain and CFI expert in mountain flying. The ground school will cover all aspects of flying techniques in and over mountains as well as landing and taking off from high altitude/high density airports. It will also cover where the flying will be taking place, in the rugged mountains of northern NM and southern CO where many peaks exceed 13,000 feet and most airports range between 6,000 and 8,000 feet MSL. FAA WINGS program credit for the seminar is provided for those who sign up online.
Mountain Flying with CFI Each pilot will have the opportunity to fly his/her plane in the mountains on either Saturday or Sunday morning with a CFI who flies regularly in these mountains. Each CFI will fly with one pilot. Included are pre and post flight briefings, flying, landings, and take-offs, in the mountains with a CFI. The flying portion will count as a BFR and the pilots will have this noted in their log books. Views will be spectacular as it will be in the height of the fall foliage color changes. In a weekend, NMPA can accommodate 10-12 pilots so register early!
