As a member of the New Mexico Pilots Association you will receive monthly, AMERICA'S FLYWAYS, a national general aviation magazine which contains a column on the NMPA. Additionally, you will receive a lengthy quarterly NMPA newsletter and mailouts announcing upcoming NMPA events and activities. You will also be able to participate in all NMPA activities and events.
NMPA hosts fly-ins around the state and sponsors the FAA Pilot Proficiency Awards Program, commonly called the WINGS program. To earn a set of wings (and to complete all requirements for a BFR) pilots must attend an FAA safety seminar and complete three hours of prescribed flight training with a Certificated Flight Instructor.
By being a member of the NMPA you will also have a strong voice to represent your interests and concerns regarding general aviation in the state.
While NMPA focuses on pilots and aviation, non-pilots with an interest in aviation are not excluded from being members. In fact, spouses (pilot or non-pilot) can also belong to NMPA at no additional cost. The only requirement to join NMPA is an interest in aviation in New Mexico and to pay the annual dues of $25.
NMPA is governed by its Constitution and Bylaws; and managed by five officers, elected annually by the NMPA members. The officers are: President, VP for Membership, VP for Education and Safety, Secretary, and Treasurer.
NMPA is a state affiliate of the United States Pilots Association (USPA). USPA was founded in 1981 to be an umbrella organization to promote the development of state and local pilot groups. Its strength comes from the strong grass roots concept, building from the bottom up, beginning with the local chapters through state associations to the national level.
While USPA has individual memberships, NMPA is a state affiliate and therefore all NMPA members are also USPA members. USPA is governed by a Constitution and Bylaws and a national board of directors. The organization is managed by several elected officers and an executive director. Each affiliate state selects five of its members for each to serve as a director of USPA. That way, each state has equal representation on the USPA board. USPA holds quarterly directors meetings around the US where the directors attend to USPA business and becomes involved in issues and concerns of importance to general aviation at any level from a local chapter's concern with the closing of an airport to national aviation concerns at the federal level.
By joining NMPA one can become more involved in aviation issues in New Mexico, participate in on-going safety seminars, education, and training. Also, fun times are enjoyed by the airport fly-ins and air tours around New Mexico. So, if you fly in New Mexico, are interested in aviation, and want to improve your flying skills, how can you not want to join NMPA?
